The Fine Line between Appreciation and Possession | 23 Safar 1437H
December 05, 2015
This might not be a love story. But it might be if you get yourself twisted in it. Okay, this is an example from a tweet that I retweeted on 14 Jan 2015. I'll start off with a generalization then narrow it down to my experience related to engineering.
If you love a flower, don't pick it up, Because when you pick it up it dies and it ceases to be what you love.
So if you love a flower, let it be. Love is not about possession. Love is about appreciation.
From my perspective in life after living in this dunya for 27 years (Hijri Calendar), I come to realize that most people are possessive instead of being appreciative (including me). From knowledge, experience, assets, relationships, offsprings, pets and so forth, it's like they feel that they own it but the truth it everything will be returned to Owner.
Let's make it as general as possible. Allah let's us live in this world but with one purpose which is to worship Allah which is not limited to one act and He made this easy for those who believes. When we've done wrong, Allah does not punish us right away and still gives us time to repent. Definitely Allah owns us to start with have you ever wondered how Allah appreciate His creation (Humans and Jinns especially) by giving them sustanence and reward when we obey him. His timing on everything is precise as well.
When I started to be an engineer, I've always wonder on how to expand my knowledge, skills and experience. It never crossed my mind that all that I want to expand is never owned by me. Crazy right? Because you worked for it but actually, Allah lend me all the above. Nothing in this world is yours to start with. When you know that it is not yours, you start to appreciate and be thankful even more than you're used to.
When I felt down previously when I can't grasp the knowledge or skill that I want. Instead of seeking for help, I will just state in my heart that it is not my cup of tea. Hence, I did not proceed. This has been the wrong moved I've taken for years. "Ini langkah bodoh sombong". Now, everytime I fall into this position again of not wanting to learn, I will seek forgiveness and help from Allah as I have wronged myself.
We we're not meant to live in this world forever. But when there's an opportunity to learn, I now set in my mind that Allah wants me to learn His knowledge that He wants to lend me. If I refuse to learn, it is like I'm turning my face the other way while Allah is handing me a gift. It's rude you know. Picture that when you're giving up without trying hard enough.
Yesterday was the day I've learn the lesson to do research first before implementing something. As an engineer, implementation is always the best part. I tried to use Wix free service to code in HTML and PHP and later link them to the Raspberry Pi Electronic Lock (RPi-EL). Allah opened the path of a new way to tackle the problem by using Weaved and WebIOPi to control RPi-EL from the Web.
Basically RPi-EL is a project assigned by my HOD Peoter Lapinski and later I turned it into a Masters of Philosophy Electrical Engineering (MPhil EE) Project because of its complexity which is supervised by Ir. Dr. Mohd Ridzuan Ahmad. So here's a brief explanation of the project
So this is what I called killing two birds with one stone which are not meant for the weak. Previously, I was a weakling in this matter because of stubborness to learn. I should stop being so inward and start being positive in absorbing what's good from the outside world.
I have a say when it comes to possession and will like to divide in into 3 and I believe this helps to clear my mind for saying what is true. Because human tend to be proud and possessive.
Knowledge - Thinking all the knowledge/skills/experience is all yours eventhough you share it around, keep in mind it is a loan from Allah to you personally.
Business - Thinking that the business(es)/company(ies) you build from scratch is yours but surely, keep in mind that Allah lend you these entities for a reason as 9/10th of sustanence is in business. Be humble and throw your pride away.
Relationship - Thinking that your family/friends/loved ones is yours, the fact is it has always been a loan from Allah. Don't be angry when they do not seem to be on your side anymore. Every relationships have trials and all you need to be is have beautiful patience and try to fix it. Once you've tried your best, return it to Owner by making du'aa that you have tried your best.
P/s: Killing people/relationship so that you can return to Owner directly without trying is still wrong.
When you know the things in life is not yours, you will treat people differently. Your heart is enlighten and would try your best to help people out with the things Allah have lend you with. The mind is a powerful thing but the heart needs to be shaped in the correct way. Humans are far from perfect but Allah let's us continuously correct ourselves and we should be thankful for that. Oh Allah, I'm consistently learning and I will fall apart at times as I am human. But from Your Blessings and Forgiveness I will surely find my way with Your Will and Permission.
Bila Pagar Tidak Beroperasi | 13 Safar 1437H
November 24, 2015
101 to FS, Sony and MRT Corp Interview | 27 Muharram 1437H
November 08, 2015
Basically, Farbeat Solutions (FS) is a business that I have registered in 2013 after I graduated. I was inspired when I sold my first robot. Then, I tried teaching robotics to UPM students when I started working with Sony. I've also supervised in designing a Quadcopter and it was successful but it was quite a quarrel as I can't really move around working in Sony.
Before taking BEng, I've used to do video editing and a little bit of web building on side. In 2006, I was the first to own a 3G phone. I previously have an obsession with technology but now, I rather be the designer of products instead of being the end user. This is the business that I've created to compliment Engineering and Information Technology under one roof.
The first part seems like I am dissing Sony. I should be more specific Sony EMCS R&D Centre KL Tec. Sorry for that. Maybe it's not my nature to be stuck in one place from 7.30am - 5.00pm (excluding overtime). I will fluster when I am not able to leave the place at will. It's like being controlled. Eventually, that place wasn't suitable for me a free spirited person whom somewhat is not aligned with the company's preference.
Despite all hate statement continuously listed, I have definitely learnt a lot there. I could not be more than very thankful to start my career as an engineer in Sony. Surely it my training ground. I've learn a bit on Linux command, a bit about TVs, about sound decoders, and a bit about writing a code with style. I mean coding rule. Seriously, I've never ever learn all those before whole heartedly.
When I went for an interview to land a position in MRT Corp, I am able to answer each question due to things I've done in Sony. I was able to answer the interviewer's questions without me noticing that I was making sense to him.
He started off the question by asking the Software Life Cycle. I was like what...(obviously, silently in my little mind). Then he continued, where you have to know the requirement... Then I was like ooo...You mean the Requirement Analysis (RA), then Basic Design (BD), then Detail Design (DD) then Unit Test (UT), then Integrated Test (IT), then he was smiling because I was correct suddenly from not knowing anything to answering everthing.
Thanks Sony, I owe you a lot for this. All the documents you ask us to do is related to the Software LIfe Cycle. How should I know, it was not listed in our BEng programme. I was lucky and it was like a right shot in the bull's eye with my eyes blinded.
The next question asked by the interviewer was not clear for me in the first place. He said "You can code C or C++ on the whiteboard, please prove how to know that bit2 is 1. I did not understand the question at first. Then, he start writing '1's and '0' and directly my head was processing rapidly. Ooo, you mean masking? He said yes. Just AND them with '1's. He then asked "The operator should be?", I said &. He sat down feeling thankful I think.Yeah, I sure learnt that during BEng, but Sony gave me a practical way to understand by running the code and tracing the log.
I surely owe you big time Sony and its been apart of whom I am now. I've landed the job in MRT Corp. I am able to go places and not be in the office stagnantly. Although I am happy with my current job, but I'll always remember where I gain the knowledge. I'm ending this post with " Thank you Sony, Sony Boleh Boleh Boleh". Haha.
